And One Last Thing … by Molly Harper
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I enjoyed “And One Last Thing”. All of the elements of a romance novel were present. Hunky, brooding next door neighbour. Troubled heroine. Gay brother/best friend. Witty banter. Hot sex. What more could you ask for? The novel was well written, easy to read, and easy to get through. The characters themselves are pretty simple too. There isn’t much complexity to this novel in any way. Maybe that’s why I liked it so much. I liked that it was simple, but not as predictable as I expected it to be and that surprise earned it 3 stars in my books.
Lacey tries to get out of town to avoid dealing with the humiliation of her husband cheating on her, as he moves his mistress into their house. She goes to her parents lakeside cabin, meets her sexy new neighbour and Monroe seems to be perfect for her ego and her break from reality. Of course, they fall in love and Lacey and Monroe try to deal with that in their own ways. Monroe tries to confront her on her potentially bad decisions and Lacey runs away from her feelings.
There was drama, character development, humour, and some sexy scenes to create an overall interesting mix. I was thoroughly satisfied, more than I initially expected. There aren’t any closet demons and there’s only one real, relationship-defining fight, but the entire progression of the novel from beginning to end was natural so I didn’t feel my usual bouts of annoyance with certain characters or situations.
It’s a nice story, with nice characters. 3/5 stars.
