Chocolate Wishes by Trisha Ashley
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
This novel was super confusing. Most of the time I was trying to figure out where the story was taking place. After double-checking with the back-cover synopsis and I realized Lancashire was in Great Britain, I had a hard time wrapping my head around the character profiles. The male protagonist is ex-rock star Raffy Sinclair who enters the story as the new village Vicar. Chloe is a chocolate maker with a family who considers themselves pagan (if I’m remembering correctly). Her brother is a bit of a prankster and idolizes Raffy’s old persona as a rock star and Chloe and Raffy still love each other despite their misunderstanding and separation in college.
The novel revolved more around Chloe’s grandfather and family in their efforts to teach the community about pagan history than her relationship with Raffy. There was also so much emphasis on her best friends and their side-love story that I found myself getting bored. There’s too much going on, too many side-character involvements and maybe it wasn’t organized as well as I’d have hoped but I can’t say much about this story because I’m still not really sure what happened during the entire middle body of the novel. The beginning and the end are clear but the main body of the story is a mix-mash of other mini stories and goings-on that I didn’t feel was necessary or vital to the main couple’s relationship development.
1/5 stars.
