S.E.C.R.E.T. by L. Marie Adeline
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Like many others, I have to agree that according to my personal tastes, this should have been a book I would enjoy. Unfortunately I was disappointed. This novel was supposed to be about Cassie’s self discovery, rediscovering her sensuality and exploring the powerful, sexy, feminine side of herself that she lost somewhere down the road of life.
I don’t have much to say about this book, it’s actually pretty short. Almost every chapter leads into another Step in the S.E.C.R.E.T. club program, and each step is a sexual fantasy to help Cassie learn something new about herself. Her boss (also a friend, and secret crush) notices the subtle change as (possibly due to the sexual haze she gets after each fantasy comes to life) she becomes more confident in herself and there’s a bit of drama there that goes nowhere.
The concept of the novel is intriguing, which is what led me to buy the book in the first place, but I was disappointed that there’s virtually no plot to the story. It’s very fast-paced and the ending left me extremely dissatisfied.
To sum it up, the book starts off somewhere, but ends off nowhere. By the end of the novel, you’re left wondering “what was the point of all of that?” The only redeeming feature of this novel is that the sexual fantasies are HOT. Too bad there was no substantial plot to accompany it.
2/5 stars.
